Féile FM, the station of Féile an Phobail, first hit the airwaves in 1996 with a restricted licence, broadcasting to the West Belfast area during February/March and July/August, and providing Open College Network (OCN) accredited training in radio and production skills and recording space for local artists, poets, storytellers and community-based projects.

In 2004 Féile FM started to broadcast over the internet which allowed the radio and its host community to develop links with communities world-wide.

In October 2005 Ofcom, the broadcasting regulators, in a clear vote of confidence, awarded Féile FM with a Full Time Community Radio Licence. This was also recognition of the relationships, which the station has built over the years with statutory and non-statutory organisations, community groups, government departments, the education sector, Protestant community projects, the Ethnic Minority Community and local private sectors, and the station’s commitment to inclusiveness and cultural diversity.

The full-time licence has given Féile FM an opportunity to develop its work as one of the most successful community development/community participation projects in the North of Ireland, to expand its transmission across the entire city of Belfast whilst still being available to the rest of the world through its website www.Féilefm.com.
