“Since last June we have looked at a number of rescue plans, including moving to a variety of new premises to lower costs, but these plans did not prove viable alternatives. As a management committee we have a responsibility to protect Féile an Phobail. We feel that we are unable to continue, at this time, with Féile FM. The management committee team have opted for immediate suspension of the station as it can no longer be maintained with the use of restricted, shared and vital resources at the same rate or in the same way, particularly as we are obligated to coordinate and oversee our other quality community festivals.

“We would like to thank all those staff and volunteers who worked on the station in many capacities and without whose efforts the station would never have been able to transmit on a full-time basis for over three years.

“We would also like to thank OFCOM for all their help and support, and to OFCOM we return the full-time licence which we were proud to hold.

“Hundreds of people from all ages experienced the thrill of live broadcasting on Féile FM, learnt editorial and presentational skills and news-gathering techniques which raised their personal confidence and self-esteem and contributed to community morale.

“Our plan now is to protect and preserve our equipment with a view to returning, initially, to part-time broadcasting as soon as possible, and with a view to returning as a full-time station in improved economic times.

Cathy Davey

No. 1 independent Irish artist Cathy Davey releases her third single, ‘Dog‘ on October 22nd, followed by an extensive Irish tour in October, featuring gigs in Clare, Galway, Mayo, Kerry, Kilkenny, Dublin, Cork, Wexford, Limerick and Waterford. Cathy will be raffling 10 exclusive framed copies of art she drew for ‘The Nameless’, one at each show on the tour, to raise much needed funds for Concern.

The infectiously catchy ’Dog’ comes from Cathy’s album ’The Nameless‘, which was released in May of this year and hurtled straight to the top spot on the Irish Album Charts, the Indie charts and the iTunes charts. The triple-crown confirmed Cathy’s position as Ireland’s leading independent artist and also made her Mam and Dad and coincidentally, her dog, very proud.

Cathy has performed to over 50,000 Irish fans this year, including packed to the rafter tents at both Oxegen and Electric Picnic festivals. Cathy’s music is currently featured on the hit TV show Drop Dead Diva in the US!

Delhi 2010

Today Féile FM’s Glen Phillips has the pleasure of speaking with two of the North of Irelands Medal winning boxers, Paddy Barnes and Tommy McCarthy. They’ll be in the studio today telling Glen all about the experience in Delhi and what life has been like since returning home to Belfast.

Paddy Barnes – Commonwealth games gold medallists 2010, Olympic bronze medallists 2008, European amateur championships gold medallists 2010 (Moscow), EU amateur championships silver medal 2008 (Cetniewo)

The 23 year old represents the Holy Family ABC in Belfast and won the Ulster title in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He has won the All-Ireland title 2007 and 2008.

Barnes represented Northern Ireland in the Delhi Commonwealth Games in the light flyweight division.^[12] He won the gold medal, defeating Namibia’s Jafet Uutoni 8-4 in the final.

Tommy McCarthy – Commonwealth games silver medallists 2010. World Youth Bronze light heavy weight medallist.

The 19 year old boxes out of Oliver Plunkett club in West Belfast at the light heavyweight division.

During the commonwealth games Tommy showed experience beyond his years and managed to fight his way to the final and a silver medal.

Paddy Gal

This afternoon on the Ant & Dick show we have the great pleasure of having a telephone interview, all the way from India, with Ireland’s newest hero, Commonwealth gold medal winner Paddy Gallagher.

During the final the Gleann club fighter Gallagher stormed into a 4-1 lead but seemed to be tiring in the second round as Smith levelled the contest at 5-5.

However, Gallagher produced an amazing final round, scoring with short-range stabs to secure a five-point winning margin.

Gallagher said he came into the competition only looking for a finals placing and had found every fight tough, particularly against the rangy Smith.

“Today I put everything into it. It was a very hard fight, fair play to the other guy,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of Belfast and the rest of the North, Féile FM would like to congratulate Paddy Gal, Paddy Barnes, Eamon O’Kane and off course Thomas McCarthy and Stephen Ward who claimed silver medals in their respective weight divisions. Well done lads.
