Féile FM, the station of Féile an Phobail, first hit the airwaves in 1996 with a restricted licence, broadcasting to the West Belfast area during February/March and July/August. The station provided Open College Network (OCN) accredited training in radio and production skills and recording space for local artists, poets, storytellers and community-based projects.
In October 2005 Ofcom, the broadcasting regulator, in a clear vote of confidence, awarded Féile FM a full-time Community Radio Licence. This was also recognition of the relationships the station had built over the years with statutory and non-statutory organisations, community groups, government departments and the education sector. The full-time licence has given Féile FM an opportunity to develop its work as one of the most successful community development participation projects in the North of Ireland. |
