American born singer and songwriter Gentry Morris follows last year’s five track single, The Bare Bones and Bad Ideas EP, with his brand new full length studio album entitled Awake ‘O’ Sleeper, featuring eleven new songs - available now from all major on-line retailers and good record stores.

Stay tuned to Drivetime today from 3.30 pm to hear the new single!

The majority of this new record has been recorded in Northern Ireland with Gentry recruiting many of his friends from the local music industry, including his regular touring companion, Juliet Turner, to help and contribute to the recording. This was an important factor for Gentry as Northern Ireland has now become a permanent home to him and the Northern Irish people in particular have been so receptive to his music.

This 27 year old songwriter hails from South Georgia and for years toured the US with a group of friends playing anywhere that would have them. Gentry Morris’ musical journey began after an eye injury left him bedridden for several months at a young age. The guitar that sat in the corner became the outlet for his creativity and he began writing songs to pass the time.

At the age of 20 Morris packed up the guitar and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in search of a career in the music industry. Gentry spent five years sharpening and defining his unique sound in the musical melting pot that is Nashville – with the battle scars and the hits to move on to bigger and better things he once again packed up the guitar… this time heading for Northern Ireland.

For the last three years Gentry has lived in Northern Ireland where he is spreading his music through solo gigs and support slots. He has regularly shared the stage with Juliet Turner, Ben Glover, Anthony Toner, Eilidh Patterson, Gareth Dunlop, Matt McGinn and numerous other local and international musicians. In 2009 he was named Artist in Residence for the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival.

Gentry Morris has a gift for creating memorable songs with an emotional range that can take the listener from a sunny day in the park to a dreary Sunday evening drive through the fog. He strives to create a unique and individual sound and seldom does he write a hook that won’t stop you flat in your tracks.
