Tim Brannigan speaking at Féile an Phobail August 2009

Tim @ August Féile 2009

Dont miss Scéalta this Wednesday when Joe Austin will be chatting to Tim Brannigan about his new book ‘Where Are You Really From?’

Tim Brannigan was born in Belfast in 1966, a black baby to a white mother, the result of a brief affair. Aware of the scandal keeping such a baby would cause but refusing to give him up, Peggy Brannigan cooked up an audacious plan. Telling everyone that the baby had died in childbirth she organised for Tim to be smuggled into the St. Joseph’s Baby Home by hospital staff. A mind-boggling tale in itself, but made all the more remarkable by the fact that one year on Peggy adopted Tim and took him home to his new family in the Falls Road area of Belfast. She wouldn’t tell him that he was her own child for a further nineteen years, and for Tim, the adventure was just beginning…

A compelling story of race, family and politics!
