Féile FM, the station of Féile an Phobail, first hit the airwaves in 1996 with a restricted licence, broadcasting to the West Belfast area during February/March and July/August, and providing Open College Network (OCN) accredited training in radio and production skills and recording space for local artists, poets, storytellers and community-based projects.
In October 2005 Ofcom, the broadcasting regulators, in a clear vote of confidence, awarded Féile FM with a Full Time Community Radio Licence. This was also recognition of the relationships, which the station has built over the years with statutory and non-statutory organisations, community groups, government departments, the education sector.
The full-time licence has given Féile FM an opportunity to develop its work as one of the most successful community development/community participation projects in the North of Ireland.
